The Atago 2771 Master-SUR/Nα is a handheld, portable, clinical refractometer that measures three scales including urine specific gravity (SG) 1.000 to 1.060, serum protein 0.2g/100ml, and refractive index scale (nD) 0.0005, has automatic temperature compensation (ATC), and is housed in a plastic, IP-65 rated body. A refractometer measures the refractive index of a solution in a sample, converts it to substance concentration in units of percent by weight, and displays the results. This refractometer is housed in a polybutylene terephthalate (PBT) plastic body for use with salty and acidic samples. The unit is Ingress-Protection (IP)-65 rated (except eyepiece) for protection against dust and water jets. It has a ridged outer shell with a telescope-shaped, streamlined design for gripping, and a spoon-shaped tip for smooth sampling. The 2771 Master-SUR/Nα features ATC for immediate and accurate calibration readings, regardless of ambient temperature. Calibration is controlled and adjusted with an exposed calibration screw and an included specialized screwdriver, although other items can be used to unscrew the unit. However, the unit retains its water-resistance. Ambient light illuminates the scale, and no additional power source is required. The outer shell grip is ridged for gripping, and is easy to clean, which reduces the possibility of food and sample entrapment, avoiding contamination and bacterial growth. The analog salinity scale features a bright, high-contrast display for clear visibility of the boundary and memory lines intersection. Samples are viewed through a monocular, focusable, cushioned eyepiece. The unit includes a protective plastic storage case with a foam cut-out insert to cushion the instrument.
